Over many decades the so-called ‘history of tango’ has produced a simplistic viewpoint of history that, although easier to tell, is at best inadequate and at worst entirely misleading. During the 10 year research period for this series I had not intended to undermine my own understanding of the origins and development of tango but the compilation, comparison and contrast of a vast array of sources has led me to re-assess many assumptions that I had previously made and to file them away under ‘Myths, Misunderstandings, and Muddles’.
Volume One: Myths & the Melting Pot (Origins to 1909)
Changes everything that is commonly believed and repeated about the origins of tango and introduces us to the pioneer performers and promoters to whom we owe a great deal. The book is packed with primary source facts and images, many of which have not appeared in any other tango publications.
